Jan 26, 2006: Integration of the Upcoming Microsoft Project P12 Version with SAP

The integration of SAP with the upcoming newest version of Microsoft Project (P12) was presented by Stavros Georgantzis during the Microsoft Project Conference 2006 in Seattle, USA.

The Project Group is a member of the Technical Adoption Program (TAP) for Microsoft Project, a hand full of exclusively chosen Microsoft partners. This is the reason why the experts of TPG already have access to the beta version of P12 and are able to adopt the integration software PSLink to the new Microsoft technologies in an early state.

Customers who intend to support their project management environment with P12 might use PSLink for the integration with their SAP system very soon after the P12 release. Presumably P12 will be available by the end of the year.

The Project Group will have a slot at the Microsoft Project Conference Europe (February 22./23. in Munich) and will present its P12-SAP integration their as well. At this conference Microsoft provides the best information and material on the current and future release of Microsoft Office Project and the Enterprise Project Management (EPM) solution. April 11, 2005: PSLink 3.0 - New Version of the World’s Leading Integration Between Microsoft Project and SAP/R3

The Project Group GmbH (TPG), one of Germany’s premier providers of add-in products, consulting services, and training for Microsoft Enterprise Project Management (EPM), today announced Version 3.0 of its flagship PSLink® product. PSLink is the world’s leading interface between Microsoft Project and SAP/R3. Using PSLink, customers can synchronize project data in both directions between the two market-leading environments; simplify several tasks; and eliminate the risk of errors, because data administration in both systems is unnecessary. Version 3.0 of PSLink will be available shortly in its Standard Edition (SE) and Controlling Edition (CE).

The Standard Edition, PSLink 3.0 SE comprises a detailed, rule-based integration between Microsoft Project and SAP, and can be tailored to the requirements of individual customers using its configuration parameters and additional programming. PSLink 3.0 SE fulfills all the prerequisites of common project management tasks, such as deadline and resource planning and SAP-related tasks like the initial cost planning carried out in Microsoft Project. It supports all objects in SAP’s project management module, including WBS elements, networks, and network activities. Customers do not need to worry about whether actual hours were entered in SAP via CATS and are visible to the project manager in Microsoft Project, or whether the entire planning process was carried out in Microsoft Project. The PSLink integration between the two systems ensures that the data is always synchronized and up-to-date on both sides.

In the Controlling Edition, PSLink 3.0 CE, SAP acts as a back-end system for financial controlling activities, while project management tasks are executed solely with Microsoft Project. PSLink 3.0 CE supports both WBS elements and WBS milestones. WBS structures are synchronized using the Microsoft Project outline or with an outline code definition. For accounting purposes, costs and work can be summarized into a balance based on WBS element and controlling indicators per fiscal year period. For example, staff costs might be summarized by WBS element, cost center, and activity type per month and business year. In contrast to the Standard Edition, PSLink 3.0 CE is suited to specific types of application and includes a comprehensive configuration options.

Both versions verify data for SAP-related rules and restrictions before they transfer the information to the other system. A differential analysis function ensures that only the actual changes are transferred. Further highlights of both PSLink3.0 SE and CE include:

  1. Full integration into Microsoft Project’s user interface
  2. Multilingual capability
  3. Mobile use of SAP data if required
  4. Fast implementation
  5. High level of user acceptance.

PSLink has been in use by several global enterprises for many years.

November 4, 2004: The Project Group announces ResourceLink, a new data integration module for Microsoft Project Server to easily and quickly import resource data into Microsoft EPM

The Project Group, one of Germany’s premier providers of add-in products and consulting services for Microsoft Enterprise Project Management (EPM), today announced ResourceLink, the company’s new data integration module. The Project Group is known for its unique and innovative EPM add-ins, and this product is no exception.  ResourceLink contributes to productivity improvements by accelerating the import of data from different sources into Microsoft Project Server. ResourceLink will start shipping at the beginning of 2005.

ResourceLink enables customers to import data from any combination of sources, including Navision, SAP, Active Directory, SQL Server, LDAP, and file systems. ResourceLink is unlike other existing products for importing resource data because:

  • it supports all of the Microsoft Project Server resource properties
  • its rules can be flexibly configured according to customer preferences
  • customers can choose the principal system for each resource property
  • imports can be scheduled.

The development team at The Project Group put particular emphasis on the speed of synchronization while they were developing the XML-based product. Before the real data is imported, customers can perform a simulation to test the process, and each task is documented with detailed log files to facilitate analysis afterwards.

“While we were developing the SAP Connector Solution Starter for Microsoft, we had the idea of developing a really powerful and centralized product for importing data from several sources,” said Johann Strasser, The Project Group’s president and development director. “ResourceLink meets a widespread need for companies to make productivity gains by automating the update process.”
